History

1906
Founded by Nakanosuke Seki, the great grandfather of the current president at the current HQ address.

Starts the Cargo shipping and diving business under the name of “Seki Shipping” with a diving boat
and a cargo ship.
1930
The founder, Nakanosuke Seki passes away.

Yoshio Seki, The grandfather of the current president inherits the family business and renames
the company as “Seki Kaiji Industry”.
1943
Department of Automobile Shipping Transportation between Mainland and Awaji Island established.
1944
Starts business with Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc Kobe and Himeji Branch.

Takes part in the submarine cable laying across the Akashi Strait (Between the Mainland and Awaji
Island) and between Himeji and Ie Island.
The company’s specialist skills and its excellency was acknowledged
by power companies and cable manufacturers and develops involvements
in cable laying,
maintenance and protection works since. 
1946
Begins newspaper delivery business commissioned by newspaper publishers, transporting newspapers
from the mainland to throughout Awaji Island
1948
Becomes the Kobe Coast Guard HQ approved Vessel Rescue Service
1950
Akashi Contact Office established at 38, Nishi-Honmachi, Akashi.
1954
Warehouse Operation Office established at 1414-2 Iwaya, Awaji.

Department of Automobile Shipping Transportation closed due to opening of the Japan Highway
Public Corporation Ferryboat between Akashi and Iwaya.
1955
Engages in the installation of the Underwater equipment for Japan Maritime Self Defense Force
Kariya Magnetic Measurement Station and becomes the approved bidder ever since.
1958
Yoshio Seki passes away.

Mamoru Seki, the father of the current president becomes the president.
1959
Upsizing and Upgrading of the vessels and equipment foreseeing larger scale works such as the
upcoming Akashi Strait – Honshu – Shikoku Bridge Construction.

1963
Involves in construction of the boring tower for geological survey of
Akashi Strait – Honshu – Shikoku Bridge Construction.
1966
Undertakes improvement of facilities, mechanization and rationalization of the company
due to increase of numbers and demands of construction works. 

Reorganizes the company and renames to “Seki Kaiji Industry Co.,Ltd”.

Sets the coasts of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa as the main operation area ever since.

Entry in the submarine cable installation business.

Launches the Self-propelled Cableship“No.18 Seki-Maru” 
 1968
Involves in repairing of Mainland – Awaji Island No.2 Submarine cable which was often 
damaged by vessel anchors due
to fast current.
The company was highly evaluated withits quick response to the matters. 
1970
Involves in installation of Akashi Strait Submarine cable.

Builds a company (owned) housing for employees to improve working environment.
1973 Launches Cable-Barge “Awaji”
1976
Establishment of Matsuho Warehouse
1978
Becomes the 5th Regional Coast Guard approved official bidder.

Aims to enlarge the business areas not only the marine construction 
1988
Launches “Awashima”

Begins Akashi Strait Submarine cable patrol operation with the guard boat “Awashima”.
1991
Launches Cable-Barge “Awaji 2”

Involves in Oyano Submarine water pipeline installation work (Kumamoto)

Installation of cable turntable on “Awaji 2”

Prepares for large diameter cable installation works and larger scale construction works.
1993
Involves in installation of power and industrial water supply line for Tokyo Bay Aqualine
construction works.

Simultaneous Laying and burial with rocksaw burial machine.
Power Supply Line: Length 6.2km, Burial Depth 6.4m 
Water Supply Line: Length 4.4km, Burial Depth 3.0m

Launches the advanced Tug / Operation Boat “No.8 Seki-Maru”equipped with various special equipment
and high controllability.

Celebrates the 30th Establishment Anniversary and the 90th Foundation Anniversary

Extension of “Awaji 2” Length 47m to 60m.

Alteration of the “Awaji 2” Turntable from 500t to 700t

Involves in one of the largest submarine cable construction works in the country, “Anan-Kihoku
HVDC Construction Project” 
2004
Masaru Seki appointed as the president and Mamoru Seki as the chairman

Begins DP Systematization of “Awaji 2”.

“Awaji 2” renamed as “Awaji”.

Expansion of Breadth 18m to 23m.
2006
Completion of “Awaji” DP Systematization

Celebrates the 40th Establishment Anniversary and the 100th Foundation Anniversary
2008
Launches Tug/Operation Boat “No.8 Seki Maru”(19t)

Launches a self-manufactured burial machine (Waterjet type), completes simultaneous laying burial
operation of Length: 16122m Burial Depth 2m 
2009
“HVDC LINK CONSTRUCTION BETWEEN JINDO & JEJUDO” (ROCK BERM INSTALLATION) awarded.
2010
Establishment of Project Propulsion Department.

Purchasing of 1050m2 land in Tsuma Industrial Area.

Completion of “HVDC LINK CONSTRUCTION BETWEEN JINDO & JEJUDO”
